CONTRAINDICATIONS

At Integrative Equine Bodywork, the safety and well-being of your horse are our top priorities. While our therapies offer numerous benefits, there are certain conditions where bodywork may not be appropriate or may require veterinary clearance. Understanding these contraindications ensures that we provide safe and effective care for your horse.

Absolute Contraindications

Recent Surgeries or Acute Injuries

Horses recovering from recent surgeries or acute injuries need time to heal. Bodywork can interfere with the healing process if performed too soon.

Open Wounds or Sores

Any open wounds, sores, or infections must be fully healed before bodywork is performed to prevent further injury or infection.

Active Laminitis or Founder

Horses suffering from active laminitis or founder are in a delicate state. Bodywork can exacerbate these conditions and should only be performed with veterinary guidance

High Temperatures

A fever indicates that your horse may be fighting an infection or illness. Bodywork is not recommended until the underlying issue is resolved.

Broken Bones or Acute Soft Tissues Injuries

Horses with fractures or acute soft tissue injuries (e.g., tendon or ligament tears) require rest and veterinary care. Bodywork is not advisable until healing is confirmed.

CONDITIONS NOT YET ADDRESSED BY A VETERINARIAN

For any acute conditions that have not been evaluated by a veterinarian, we require veterinary clearance before proceeding with bodywork. This ensures that we do not inadvertently cause harm or interfere with necessary medical treatments.

Chronic Conditions

Chronic conditions like arthritis or long-term muscle issues may benefit from bodywork, but require a tailored approach and veterinary oversight.

2

Inflammatory Conditions

Conditions causing inflammation, such as tendonitis or bursitis, should be carefully managed with input from a veterinarian to avoid aggravating the inflammation.

3

Pregnancy

Pregnant mares require special consideration, and certain bodywork techniques may need to be modified or avoided.
